PROCEDURE
Before using Fake Bake Flawless, I showered using all of my normal products. But at the very end of my shower, I used the Fake Bake Passion Fruit Body Polish to exfoliate my skin. (Exfoliating is such an important step in the process of self-tanning!)

When I get out of the shower I dry off and then wait for my skin to be completely dry. Next I put the gloves and mitt on my hands and proceed to spray a single body part at a time with the tanning liquid. Right after spraying, I take the hand with the mitt on it and begin to rub it into my skin using circular motions. Then I repeat that step for all of the other parts of my body. I don't usually have to wait to put my clothes on after applying because it dries really quickly, so proceed with that as normal. Also, I've never found that the product comes off on bed sheets or clothes at any time of the day/night, so you don't have to worry about that. Basically, follow the package instructions and you'll be fine.


Note: The next time you shower or get your skin wet, some color will come off. But it is the color from the self-tanner being brown-toned itself! It's NOT your actual tan coming off! :)
Also, make sure you apply this product when you know you're done getting your hands and body wet for the rest of the day. The color will come off of your hands without tanning you if you wash your hands or even just run them under water. Don't put moisturizer or lotion on afterwards either; they have a similar effect.


On the days that I don't use the self-tanner, I use the Fake Bake Tan-Enhancing Lotion to help keep my tan lasting longer!

Tip: If you ever want to let your tan wear off, exfoliate every time you shower so that it wears off evenly and doesn't appear patchy.


RESULTS
I have a neutral skin tone with pretty even amounts of pink and yellow undertones, and I would describe my normal skin color as light (between fair and medium). Therefore I may be able to wear Neutral Cool (NC), Neutral (N), or Neutral Warm (NW) foundation colors. (Sometimes picking out a foundation in a different brand or product line than what I'm used to using can get kind of complicated since I need to check out slightly cool, neutral, and slightly warm colors in order to find the best color.) I find it easiest to compare the results by using the foundation colors that I used to wear with the foundation colors that I wear now.


My Skin Tone Color WITHOUT SELF-TANNER:

My Skin Tone Color WITH FAKE BAKE SELF-TAN LIQUID:
NC/N/NW 35-40

Maybelline SuperStay Shade: Medium 80 Natural Tan


I went up several shades of foundation after using this product for five days in a row. I saw the most dramatic differences in my skin tone after the second day of using it and after the fifth day of using it.

This picture was taken in very yellow indoor light. (So, the intensity/darkness of the hue should be the same, but the hue is different than it looks here. It looks orange because of the yellow light in my apartment, but trust me--it doesn't look orange like a lot of other self-tanners.)

EVALUATION

PROS:

- You can apply this product as many days in a row as you want until you achieve the look you want.
- Unlike most self-tanners in the drugstore (or at least from my experiences), you can get VERY dark with this product. You can add as much or as little color to your skin as you want and within a relatively short period of time!
- I love the color that the tanner leaves on your skin! It DOES NOT LOOK ORANGE!! The tanner seems to create more of a red-brown color than anything, but I really had to look at it to evaluate it.
- At no point during the tanning process does the product smell bad on your skin. You can't smell it that much after you apply it to the skin, but if you do smell something ever, it is just kind of sweet and tropical!
- Paraben-free!!! (Methylparaben has been known to cause wrinkles sooner than you would normally get them, especially with sun exposure.)
- I can apply this on my face, and it doesn't clog my pores or break me out! You all know I have trouble with acne, so that is a big plus to me!
- You can get several (probably at least 10) uses out of one bottle of this product!

CONS/CAUTIONS:

- I found that it was difficult to keep my face as tan as the rest of my body, but that is probably due to me using cleansers and products with ingredients (like salicylic acid) that speed up the process of skin cell removal.
- Since the product itself imparts color to your skin, your skin will look a little bit lighter after you rinse the color off when you shower next. It's not a big difference, just something to note.
- If you have built up skin on any place on your body that the exfoliator doesn't remove, those spots will appear darker than the rest of your body. But this is something you might experience with any self-tanner.


BOTTOM LINE
I LOVE this product! I have no real complaints or problems with it; plus, I think it's a great deal for the price I paid! (See below for more info on pricing and where to purchase.)
This product also got the seal of approval from my boyfriend; he didn't/doesn't think I look like an Oompa-Loompa! And my mom, who is in her 50s, said she thought it looked pretty natural as well. :)
